What a week! The St. Maarten Heineken Regatta 2026 has wrapped up, and honestly — we’re still buzzing. Four days of world-class sailing, warm Caribbean vibes, and the kind of energy that only St. Maarten can deliver. If you weren’t here, you missed something truly special. But don’t worry — we’ve got the full recap right here!

What Is the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta?
Every year, the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta transforms the island into one of the world’s great sailing destinations. This year’s edition — the 46th Heineken Regatta, held from March 5–8, 2026 — brought together sailors from over 35 nations. From professional crews on Maxi yachts to families on chartered bareboats, the mix is exactly what makes this event so special. It’s competitive, it’s inclusive, and by the end of the day, everyone celebrates together. Serious fun, as they say.

Friday: The Around the Island Race – We Were There!
Friday kicked off with the most iconic event of the regatta: the Around the Island Race. And we had the best seats in the house. Our friend Soc from Island 92 invited us aboard the Media VIP boat, and we followed the fleet up close as they raced the full circumference of St. Maarten. Conditions were already challenging — but as it turned out, that was just the warm-up act.

Sunday: The Wildest Day of the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta 2026
If Friday was intense, Sunday was something else entirely. Gusts of 35+ knots swept across the water, and waves built so high that entire boats disappeared behind swells at the windward marks, only to reappear downwind.
We spent the day aboard Riptide from Boomerang — and it was spectacular. Many teams had reefed their mainsails at the start line, and Cockatoo was flying a storm jib. Two Diam 24 trimarans capsized during the racing. Thankfully, all crews were safe and the boats were righted with the help of the safety teams.
“It was absolutely wild out there. Definitely the hardest regatta day I’ve ever experienced,”said the crew of Scylla in CSA3. We couldn’t agree more.

German Vacationers Right in the Middle of the Action
Our German vacation guests joined a spectator boat and experienced the regatta from the water. Even just watching in those conditions was an adventure! The mix of Maxi yachts, multihulls, bareboats, and tiny Diam 24s crossing each other on the race course — a sight to behold. Quintessential Heineken Regatta St. Maarten.

Nail-Biting Racing to the Very Last Mark
The racing delivered drama until the end. In CSA4, Belladonna led for most of the week before losing control of their spinnaker on the final day — dropping down the leaderboard. Apollo managed to tame their kite, and Jackknife took the class win with a superb downwind finish.
In CSA5, the crew of Panacea X said it best: “It was the wildest and windiest St. Maarten Heineken Regatta we’ve ever sailed — and we’ve sailed quite a few.” First place, well earned.

International Women’s Day on the Water
Sunday March 8 was International Women’s Day — and the regatta celebrated beautifully. Women were everywhere on the race course: 17-year-old skipper Veronica Destin on the SMYC Sunfast, the all-women Dutch team “Glad to Be Here” (ages 27 to 67!), Sarah Ragleon the bow of Apollo, and Antonia Zipfel skippering Walross 4.
Over half of the Race Committee was made up of women. As Berit Bus of Team Island Water World said: “Today we celebrate the women who trim the sails, take the helm, and show the world that the ocean belongs to all of us.” 🙌

The Bridge Show: A St. Maarten Tradition
As the fleet made its final passage through the Simpson Bay Bridge, the crews delivered the legendary Bridge Show. Heineken-themed costumes, Irish performances, pure joy — while spectators lined the Sint Maarten Yacht Club and the Lagoon cheered them on. This tradition never gets old.

Party at the Regatta Village
After the prize-giving at Port de Plaisance Regatta Village, the party kicked off properly. DJ Outcast, D Kullus, and Tanya Michele + Adrien warmed up the crowd — before reggae legends Inner Circle closed out the night. Those memories will stay with us la la la la la long! 😄
